Is Legalizing the purchase of prescription drugs from Canada the Answer?

CANADAMEDS SAYS "PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS THE RIGHT WAY"

www.americaputmeoutofbusiness.com

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg, January 10, 2005 – When Pharmacist Daren Jorgenson launched his new Website, www.Americaputmeoutofbusiness.com he wasn't asking Canada's Federal Government to step in. Mr. Jorgenson, a pioneer of the mail-order pharmacy business in Canada was challenging American citizens to shut down his Canadian mail-order pharmacy by urging their elected officials to bring affordable prescription prices to American pharmacies and American citizens. Because online Canadian pharmacies offer the same, safe prescription medication at a fraction of what most Americans pay, he hopes that the American people will realize this and hold their elected officials accountable for their past and present positions on the issue.

Recent threats by Canada's Health Minister Mr. Ujjal Dosanjh to stop the mail-order pharmacy business in Canada and ban the export of drugs to Americans has Mr. Jorgenson worrying about the millions of uninsured and underinsured Americans and seniors who rely on Canadian prescriptions. Jorgenson says, "There is no logical reason for Canada to shut down this business unless meds are actually being shorted to Canadians, which is not the case. The only people that could affect shortages are the drug manufacturers. The argument that doctors don't actually see the patient is redundant, as their own physician has already examined them. While Mr. Dosanjh says it is unethical for doctors to write scripts for patients they don't see and for pharmacists to fill these, I would say it is more unethical to not permit patients to take their prescribed meds due to the fact that they cannot afford them. I would think it would be unethical for the medical community to assist patients by whatever means are available including advising them to purchase from Canada or oversees. Shame, shame, shame, on the Health Minister in Canada and the U.S. for trying to jeopardize the health of under privileged or under-insured U.S. citizens."

Daren Jorgenson, one of the pioneers of the online pharmacy industry, never expected this industry to grow at the pace that it has. Jorgenson says, this industry has experienced phenomenal growth and has now clearly defined more than ever before that there is a health care crisis in the United States. Millions of individuals are having to decide between the everyday essentials of life and their life saving prescription medications. Why do elected officials continue to turn their backs on the millions that are suffering? Why do elected officials continue to slam our industry by challenging the safety of prescription medications from Canada when they can just as easily challenge drug companies in the United States to lower their prices? Why has the pharmaceutical industry consistently been the most profitable industry over the past 8 years, with profits 4-5 times higher than the average Fortune 500 firms yet elected officials refuse to do anything about the millions in the United States that are suffering because they can not afford prescription medications.

Recent events have made it clear that the suffering in the United States should no longer rely on Canada for safe and affordable prescription medications, forcing Daren Jorgenson and his very successful mail order pharmacy business to Canadameds.com global pharmacy options.

"This industry has raised awareness in the United States and it has exposed the one fact that drug companies were hoping Americans would not discover, that being that Americans pay more for their prescription medications than any other developed country in the entire world, says Jorgenson."

Americans must not allow drug companies to continue dictating what they will pay for their prescription medications, nor must the Canadian Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh be allowed to dictate to Americans where they can and cannot purchase prescriptions medications. "I want Americans to Put Me Out of Business the right way!" I want Americans to challenge their elected officials to finally stand up to the drug companies and force them to reduce prices in the United States.

I want you to put me out of business the right way to better your lives and the lives of your loved ones to follow by forcing permanent change. You need your elected officials to finally hold the drug industry accountable for their actions.

Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canadameds, is one of the leading mail order pharmacies in Canada, and can be reached via their website, (www.canadameds.com) or toll free at 1-877-542-3330. Canadameds provides the availability for American patients to utilize global pharmacy services.

Bill to allow pharmacies to reimport drugs passes Senate

The Oklahoma Senate backs a drug reimportation plan that would permit state pharmacies to obtain U-S-made prescription drugs from Canada and elsewhere for sale here. The Federal Drug Administration has opposed drug reimportation bills, claiming they violate the Interstate Commerce Clause of the U-S Constitution. Those measures mainly deal with allowing individuals to obtain reimported drugs. Tulsa state Senator Tom Adelson says his legislation avoids that legal question because it would require pharmacies to sell reimported medicines only to Oklahomans in intrastate, not interstate, commerce. Most programs are geared to allowing individuals obtain such drugs by crossing the border into Canada or buying drugs online.

Democrats allege bad deal on drugs

Bay Area seniors are not saving significant money under Medicare's new prescription drug program, according to a report released Monday by most of the Bay Area's House Democrats. The report says Bay Area prices for 2004's 10 best-selling prescription drugs among seniors are 75 percent higher under the new Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit than under deals negotiated by the federal government at other agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs. Medicare Part D's prices also are 60 percent higher than those paid by consumers in Canada; almost 5 percent higher than prices on Drugstore.com; and almost 2 percent higher than prices at Costco, the report found. But Republicans who shepherded the bill through Congress rejected a proposal to let Medicare negotiate with drug companies for lower prices. The report proves "what we've been saying since the debate on the Republican Medicare drug bill began," said Rep. Pete Stark, D-Fremont, in a news release. "If you create a privatized drug benefit and refuse to let the government negotiate lower prices, senior citizens and people with disabilities will pay the price," said Stark, who as ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee's Health Subcommittee is particularly outspoken on the issue. "Instead of attempting to set Medicare on the road to privatization, Republicans in Congress should have worked with Democrats to establish a real prescription benefit within Medicare."
