LEADING CANADIAN MAIL ORDER PHARMACY CANADAMEDS.COM ISSUES CHALLENGE TO AMERICAN CITIZENS AND U.S. GOVERNMENT ON NEW WEBSITE

www.americaputmeoutofbusiness.com

WINNIPEG – Daren Jorgenson, Founder of many online Canadian pharmacies offering Americans lower cost medications from Canada, including but not limited to www.canadameds.com , www.AmericanDrugClub.com , and www.CanadaRx.com ,announced Tuesday, August 24th, 2004, the launch of a new website, that urges U.S. Citizens to put him and his very successful mail order, prescription medication operation out of business. The new website is called www.americaputmeoutofbusiness.com.

Jorgenson says; “This website is a direct challenge to all American Citizens to band together and tell their elected officials that they are outraged at paying 80% more than citizens of any other country for their prescription medication. I have never felt more passionate about anything in my life. We need people to realize this and hold their elected officials accountable for their past and present positions on the issue. I am encouraged by the recent stance taken by John Kerry, contending that in essence, it is a joke that Americans have to needlessly pay astronomical prices for their life saving medications. I would like to see more announcements like these from others who are running for office . I want to implore Americans to use www.americaputmeoutofbusiness.com as their avenue to send a strong message to their elected officials telling them they demand major changes. This election needs to be used as the platform that brings this important societal issue into the forefront. Vote for those that have your best interests at heart - you won’t get another chance for 4 years.”

Jorgenson is throwing down the gauntlet and www.americaputmeoutofbusiness.com will act as the conduit. Jorgenson will pass on every message he receives to all levels of American Government. He will ensure that the politicians who are up for election and reelection will hear united voices of concern. Jorgenson says he will be waiting to see if those who govern truly have the best interests of Americans at heart and not the interests of the profit seeking, giant pharmaceutical companies.

Jorgenson states that he commenced “the first major Canadian pharmacy to offer the sale of prescriptions from Canada to the U.S. – I have been in the mail order pharmacy business since 1999, and I want to be the first to be put out of business.” Jorgenson has heard the voices of many distraught seniors and low income American families telling him that they are forced to choose between spending their incomes on drugs that will save their lives or putting food on the table. “I have heard women crying on our customer service lines telling me how their 70 plus year old husbands have to continue working in order to keep their drug plan eligibility when they should be enjoying retirement. It is time to say enough…this has to end! Tell your elected officials that the Big Pharmaceutical giants are stealing from you. It makes me ill every day that this situation has not been corrected. Why is the FDA’s William Hubbard not going after Pfizer to lower its prices instead of expending his energy by trying to steer U.S. citizens away from the only affordable option they have…turning to Canada to provide the safe and affordable prescription medication so readily available at home but at inflated costs?”

Jorgenson’s web-site will encourage Americans – prior to casting their votes - to read up to the minute, official statements from politicians running for election in order to see where they stand on the issue of affordable medicine. Says Jorgenson, "We cannot allow this situation to go on. And we certainly cannot count on the big drug companies to change things”.

Within the last year, major drug companies, particularly Pfizer, have been cutting off the supply of their medications to Jorgenson’s pharmacy, just because they are providing a safe and affordable alternative service to Americans. Pfizer’s actions have forced Jorgenson to seek global solutions such as dispensing Pfizer medication from New Zealand and other countries. Now, Pfizer is shutting down the pharmacies in New Zealand just like they did in Canada. If this drug behemoth is not held accountable, it will be successful in shutting down all of Jorgenson’s global pharmacies. This will of course put Jorgenson out of business, but in so doing it will remove the only available avenue for millions of U.S. citizens to purchase the drugs that they unfortunately cannot afford in America.

Jorgenson is gearing up for a cross country tour of America to promote his "America Put me out of Business" challenge. He is in the process of scheduling appearances ranging from late August through to election day, November 2nd, 2004. In addition to Jorgenson, keynote American speakers considered by many to be experts on the issue of drug pricing policy in America, will address the issues.

Jorgenson says, “So Americans - do it the right way. I want you to put me out of business by electing politicians that will bring affordable prescription prices to American pharmacies. Don’t let the FDA put me out of business! Don’t let the drug companies put me out of business! I want America to put me out of business! Demand lower prices for you and your families. I challenge you to put me out of business.”

We encourage all American politicians, health care providers and citizens to express their concerns on Canadian drug reimportation and costly American drug prices by fax to # 204 942 8556 or by mail to 881 Main St, Winnipeg, MB, Canada, R2W 3P2 or email us at Sharon.Clarke@Canadameds.com. You can also express your views directly on the ‘Forum’ and ‘Blog’ sections of www.Americaputmeoutofbusiness.com. All responses will be posted on our website.

Bill to allow pharmacies to reimport drugs passes Senate

The Oklahoma Senate backs a drug reimportation plan that would permit state pharmacies to obtain U-S-made prescription drugs from Canada and elsewhere for sale here. The Federal Drug Administration has opposed drug reimportation bills, claiming they violate the Interstate Commerce Clause of the U-S Constitution. Those measures mainly deal with allowing individuals to obtain reimported drugs. Tulsa state Senator Tom Adelson says his legislation avoids that legal question because it would require pharmacies to sell reimported medicines only to Oklahomans in intrastate, not interstate, commerce. Most programs are geared to allowing individuals obtain such drugs by crossing the border into Canada or buying drugs online.

Democrats allege bad deal on drugs

Bay Area seniors are not saving significant money under Medicare's new prescription drug program, according to a report released Monday by most of the Bay Area's House Democrats. The report says Bay Area prices for 2004's 10 best-selling prescription drugs among seniors are 75 percent higher under the new Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit than under deals negotiated by the federal government at other agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs. Medicare Part D's prices also are 60 percent higher than those paid by consumers in Canada; almost 5 percent higher than prices on Drugstore.com; and almost 2 percent higher than prices at Costco, the report found. But Republicans who shepherded the bill through Congress rejected a proposal to let Medicare negotiate with drug companies for lower prices. The report proves "what we've been saying since the debate on the Republican Medicare drug bill began," said Rep. Pete Stark, D-Fremont, in a news release. "If you create a privatized drug benefit and refuse to let the government negotiate lower prices, senior citizens and people with disabilities will pay the price," said Stark, who as ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee's Health Subcommittee is particularly outspoken on the issue. "Instead of attempting to set Medicare on the road to privatization, Republicans in Congress should have worked with Democrats to establish a real prescription benefit within Medicare."
