People are cutting double-strength Lipitor pills in half to reduce prescription drug costs? No one thinks to ask, "Why is it that double-strength Lipitor is no more expensive than single strength"? That fact alone proves prescription drug pricing is fraudulent.
60 Minutes runs a show where a Pfizer executive advocates we pool resources and buy drugs from countries where they are cheaper. Once again, no one thinks to ask, "Why are they cheaper in other countries?"
Why should Lipitor cost $76 here, $55 in Canada, and $43 in Italy? What good are trade agreements if we don't get equal treatment? If I am overlooking something, please point me to the foreign stock exchange where I can buy IBM for $43.
Drug companies whine, "If We lower costs, we will not be able to afford drug research." OK, but does the United States have to carry all of this burden? Frankly, knowing Osama gets his Lipitor subsidized by the United States sends my LDL sky high.
Then the imbeciles in Congress let the drug companies run wild with advertising. Do you suppose this might be adding to our costs?
