The Internet is a wonderful thing, but it can be used for bad purposes.
That's why federal lawmakers should do more than look into Web sites that sell illicit drugs without prescriptions. They should put them out of business.A recently released report prepared for House leaders states: "A concerted, programmatic effort to take down these Web sites ... could have a significant impact on illicit product availability." The report was compiled for a subcommittee that conducts investigations for the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Just a few of the choice items you can buy online include prescription painkillers, anabolic steroids and sleeping pills.
Go to the pharmacy and these items are behind the counter. The pharmacist requires a prescription from your doctor, while many of these Web sites don't. There's also no guarantee you get the drug you request, even if you have a legitimate prescription.
Too often at these online drug dens, as long as you have a valid credit card number, you have a long menu of drugs from which to choose.
The online dope pusher's business is too safe. It's time to shake it up.
While not every site sells without a prescription, it's time to make it safer for legitimate consumers who are looking for deals on prescription drugs.
