Is Legalizing the purchase of prescription drugs from Canada the Answer?

canadian ONLINE PHARMACY INFORMATION

Canadameds is one of the original and one of the largest International Prescription Service (“IPS”) pharmacy operations throughout Canada and the world.

Canadameds is a founding and an active member of both the Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA) and the North American Pharmacy Accreditation Commission (NAPAC), and an active member of the Manitoba International Pharmacists Association (MIPA). Each of these organizations requires, and ensures, that its members provide the highest standards of professionalism, safety and ethics, to their customers.

All drugs sold by Canadameds must pass the rigorous standards, demands and tests imposed by Health Canada, the Canadian federal government department that has responsibility for providing safe and affordable prescription medication for Canadians.

Canadameds is a privately held Manitoba corporation, founded and owned by Daren Jorgenson, a pharmacist. Mr. Jorgenson is widely known and respected in the industry as a pioneer and visionary, who has brought to his operations the principles of sound corporate governance, strong moral principles and good corporate citizenship. These guiding principles have helped to ensure for the organization an operational and managerial structure proving to be superior in the IPS sector. Canadameds manages for results. Mr. Jorgenson is innovative, and he and his organization are absolutely committed to the Canadameds mission - to deliver the highest quality products and services to our customers, in the most efficient and timely manner.

In keeping with its mission, Canadameds and its related organizations is a professional family of over 150 employees and contractors, all with a focus on providing exceptional value and service to its customers. Since its inception approximately four years ago, the organization’s growth has been phenomenal – with Canadameds and its family of companies quickly achieving revenues approaching $200 million CDN. We attribute this to our dedicated and loyal employees, our rigorous training programs and attention to detail and our commitment to implementing new and better processes, technologies and systems on an ongoing basis. We are currently undergoing a major renovation to our physical and global, operational capacities in order to continue and improve the quality service we currently provide to our customers, and also to ensure that we will meet the ever-growing demands of more and more Americans who could not otherwise afford their life-saving and life-enhancing medications.

Canadameds has also made and continues to make very significant investments in technology assets, and particularly computer software. For example, Canadameds, in partnership with another leading Canadian IPS pharmacy operation (Total Care Pharmacy, in Calgary, Alberta), has developed workflow management software which allows Canadameds staff, and its customers, to track, in real time, the progress of their prescription throughout the fulfillment process. This software provides significantly improved efficiency in the prescription fulfillment process, as well as providing unparalleled customer service.

Canadameds’ business model is to utilize the Internet and other means to market both its services and the products it supplies to our customers, most of whom are located in the United States. All prescriptions received by Canadameds are filled through our own and licensed pharmacies, or from pharmacies in the United Kingdom and other states with whom we have Prescription Fulfillment Agreements in place to ensure level and quality of service - and all are filled by licensed pharmacists. Again, although Canadameds currently has in-house additional capacity to fill prescriptions, we are anticipating and planning for significant growth. Accordingly, Canadameds has established relationships and procedures in place whereby additional pharmaceutical operations can be utilized, should increased demand warrant it.

As stated previously, the owner of Canadameds is Daren Jorgenson, a pharmacist. Mr. Jorgenson is widely known and respected in the industry as both a pioneer and visionary who has brought to his operations the principles of sound corporate governance, strong moral principles and good corporate citizenship.

Mr. Jorgenson has attracted to and secured for his organization top-level executive and senior management. Chief Executive Officer, Mike Hicks, a lawyer, brings to Canadameds over 13 years of corporate and commercial legal experience, having acted for many distinguished clients across Canada. David Schioler is Canadameds’ Vice-President of Operations and Administration. Mr. Schioler, also a lawyer, holds a Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University, an internationally recognized and accredited Business School. Together, Mr. Hicks and Mr. Schioler supply several years of high level management experience, both having had significant General Counsel and management experience with various manufacturing and retail concerns. This committed executive team ensures quick and efficient implementation of Canadameds strategies and actions, constantly improving the quality service that Canadameds’ many thousands of American customers currently experience.

Mr. Jorgenson and his Canadameds team are committed to the business, charitable and philanthropic communities and interests wherever the organization operates.

Bill to allow pharmacies to reimport drugs passes Senate

The Oklahoma Senate backs a drug reimportation plan that would permit state pharmacies to obtain U-S-made prescription drugs from Canada and elsewhere for sale here. The Federal Drug Administration has opposed drug reimportation bills, claiming they violate the Interstate Commerce Clause of the U-S Constitution. Those measures mainly deal with allowing individuals to obtain reimported drugs. Tulsa state Senator Tom Adelson says his legislation avoids that legal question because it would require pharmacies to sell reimported medicines only to Oklahomans in intrastate, not interstate, commerce. Most programs are geared to allowing individuals obtain such drugs by crossing the border into Canada or buying drugs online.

Democrats allege bad deal on drugs

Bay Area seniors are not saving significant money under Medicare's new prescription drug program, according to a report released Monday by most of the Bay Area's House Democrats. The report says Bay Area prices for 2004's 10 best-selling prescription drugs among seniors are 75 percent higher under the new Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit than under deals negotiated by the federal government at other agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs. Medicare Part D's prices also are 60 percent higher than those paid by consumers in Canada; almost 5 percent higher than prices on Drugstore.com; and almost 2 percent higher than prices at Costco, the report found. But Republicans who shepherded the bill through Congress rejected a proposal to let Medicare negotiate with drug companies for lower prices. The report proves "what we've been saying since the debate on the Republican Medicare drug bill began," said Rep. Pete Stark, D-Fremont, in a news release. "If you create a privatized drug benefit and refuse to let the government negotiate lower prices, senior citizens and people with disabilities will pay the price," said Stark, who as ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee's Health Subcommittee is particularly outspoken on the issue. "Instead of attempting to set Medicare on the road to privatization, Republicans in Congress should have worked with Democrats to establish a real prescription benefit within Medicare."
